This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) describes how TimeExchanges, an Illinois S Corporation (“TimeExchanges,” “TimeExchanges.com.” “we,” “us,” or “our”), collects, uses, stores, and shares information about you when you use our website and platform (collectively, the “Platform”). This Policy is incorporated into and part of our Terms of Service.

 

By registering for or using the Platform, you consent to the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.

 

1. Information We Collect

1.1  Information You Provide Directly

When you register or use the Platform, you may provide:

  • Name and contact information (email address, zip code, phone number);

  • Account credentials (username and password);

  • Profile information (a description of services you offer or seek);

  • Organizational or business affiliation, if applicable;

  • Communications you send to other Members through the Platform; and

  • Any other information or image you choose to share in your profile or messages.

 

1.2  Information Generated by Your Use of the Platform

We automatically collect certain information when you use the Platform, including:

  • Time-exchange transaction records (services offered, credits earned and spent, transaction dates and parties, optional memo about the transaction);

  • Log data (IP address, browser type, pages visited, time and date of access);

  • Device information (device type, operating system); and

  • Cookies and similar tracking technologies (see Section 5).

 

1.3 Information from Third Parties

A registered Member may register another individual on the Platform by submitting that person's name, email address, and zip code, and by affirming that the person has consented to registration. When this occurs, we will send the newly registered person an email notifying them that an account has been created in their name and identifying the Member who registered them. That email will include a link to cancel the account immediately if they did not consent or do not wish to participate.

Any Member may cancel their account at any time by editing their profile and clicking the "Cancel your account" button. Upon cancellation, the Member's personal information will be deleted or anonymized as described in Section 4.

We do not purchase or obtain personal data from data brokers or other third-party commercial sources.

 

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and maintain your account;

  • Record and display time-exchange transactions;

  • Enable you to connect with and communicate with other Members;

  • Send you operational communications, such as account confirmations, transaction summaries, and policy updates;

  • Respond to your questions or support requests;

  • Monitor for and address fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms of Service;

  • Improve the Platform’s features, performance, and usability; and

  • Comply with applicable legal obligations.

 

We do not sell your personal information to advertisers or use it to serve you targeted advertising. The Platform is free and ad-free.

 

3. How We Share Your Information

3.1  With Other Members

Your profile information — including your name and description of services offered — is visible to other registered Members. Transaction records (such as the parties to a time exchange and the number of credits involved) are visible to the Members who are parties to that transaction.

 

Note: We are in the midst of disabling the following condition on the Platform: Transaction records (such as the parties to a time exchange and the number of credits involved) are visible to all Members.  

 

You control what additional information you share in your profile. We encourage you not to post sensitive personal or financial information publicly.

 

3.2  With Third Parties You Authorize

If you participate in a program administered by a third party (such as a government entity or employer) that uses TimeExchanges.com to issue time-credit incentives, that third party may have access to transaction records related to credits it has issued to you. We are not responsible for how such third parties handle your information, and we encourage you to review their privacy practices.

 

3.3  Service Providers

We may share your information with trusted third-party service providers who assist us in operating the Platform (for example, web hosting providers, email delivery services, or analytics tools). These providers are permitted to use your information only to perform services on our behalf and are required to protect it.

 

3.4  Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to:

  • Comply with a legal obligation;

  • Protect the rights, property, or safety of TimeExchanges, our Members, or the public; or

  • Detect, prevent, or address fraud or security issues.

 

3.5  Business Transfers

If TimeExchanges is acquired, merged with another entity, or its assets are transferred, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify Members of any such change and any material effect on how their information is handled.

 

3.6  No Sale of Personal Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for their own marketing or commercial purposes.

 

4. Data Retention

We retain your account information and transaction records for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period thereafter to support dispute resolution, legal compliance, and platform integrity. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it.

 

If you close your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal profile information within a reasonable time, subject to any legal retention obligations. Transaction records may be retained in anonymized form for platform recordkeeping.

 

5. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

The Platform uses cookies — small text files stored on your device — and similar technologies to:

  • Keep you logged in to your account;

  • Remember your preferences;

  • Understand how Members use the Platform so we can improve it; and

  • Detect and prevent fraudulent or unauthorized activity.

 

We do not use cookies to track you across third-party websites or to serve you advertising.

 

Most browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. Disabling cookies may affect the functionality of the Platform, including your ability to stay logged in.

 

6. Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These include password hashing, encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), and access controls.

 

No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure. While we work hard to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately at barry@timeexchanges.com.

 

7. Children’s Privacy

The Platform is not directed to individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If we learn that we have inadvertently collected information from a person under 18, we will delete it promptly. If you believe a minor has registered on the Platform, please notify us at barry@timeexchanges.com.

 

8. Your Rights and Choices

You have the following rights with respect to your personal information:

 

  • Access and correction.  You may review and update your profile information at any time through your account settings.

  • Account closure.  You may close your account at any time by contacting us. Upon closure, your personal profile information will be deleted or anonymized as described in Section 4.

  • Communication preferences.  You may opt out of non-essential communications (such as platform newsletters) by following the unsubscribe instructions in those messages or by contacting us. You cannot opt out of operational communications necessary to maintain your account.

  • Data requests.  You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by contacting us at barry@timeexchanges.com. We will respond within a reasonable time and in accordance with applicable law.

 

If you are a resident of Illinois or another jurisdiction with specific privacy rights (such as the right to know, the right to delete, or the right to opt out of sale), those rights apply to the extent required by law. Because we do not sell personal information, an opt-out of sale right is satisfied by our existing practices.

 

9. Illinois Residents — BIPA Notice

The Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) governs the collection and use of biometric identifiers and biometric information. TimeExchanges.com does not collect, store, or use biometric data of any kind (such as fingerprints, facial geometry, or retinal scans). BIPA does not apply to the Platform’s current operations.

 

10. Links to Other Websites

The Platform may contain links to third-party websites (for example, websites of Members or partner organizations). This Policy does not apply to those sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.

 

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, the Platform, or applicable law. When we do, we will post the revised Policy on the Platform with an updated effective date. For material changes, we will provide notice to registered Members by email or through the Platform. Your continued use of the Platform after notice constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
