Welcome to Northwest Austin Council (NAC), established in 1972 and a community-based, not-for-profit organization. NAC’s mission is to mobilize residents of Chicago's Austin Community to take action on the issues that directly affect their lives. We focus on improving safety, education, and housing.

NAC has helped start many organizations, including Austin Green Team, Westside Health Authority, Neighborhood Policing Initiative, Peacemakers Coalition, The Coalition, and Campaign for Drug-free Westside.

In 1999, Studs Terkel interviewed the then-Executive Director of NAC, Ms Leola Spann.
