AJ Abboreno is a local Chicago Artist who currently lives in Oak Park, Illinois His work is mainly in acrylics on canvas but he also works in oil and watercolor. His early work reflected interest in American Cubist artist Stuart Davis and the color theories of Josef Albers. Using subtle neutral color relationships and real world experience he developed his talent as a Hard Edge Field Painter. As a Painting and Drawing teacher in the Chicago Public Schools he worked with talented inner city students, using their obsession with graffiti to create acceptable art forms. In 1989, AJ worked with Keith Haring on a mural project. It was this association with Haring and his use of bold outlining and raw color that led Tony to intensify his color palette and incorporate the use of outlining in his works. Today he expresses himself through color in paintings on canvas and recycled objects.
